Ravuma crossing update

I just chatted to a girl who did the exact same route some time ago (the ferry was just out of order at the time), did the crossing on fishing boats and planks and had their car fall into the river just as they were unloading on the opposite embankment.

Theirs was the only vehicle of four that ended up submerged. Cost them a fortune (in Dollars and years of their lives) to get a tractor form nearby, the vehicle exhumed :-) and transported to the nearest town and finding a place safe to stay for the night (apparently this is a local lion haunt).

But after extensive effort by a local mechanic, they left driving it!! LOL (nervously), not sure whether this is good news or bad!?

    Ek kan nie verstaan hoekom ry julle nie deur Malawi nie. Minder probleme en hulle is Engels magtig. Eerstens moet jy redelik magtig wees in Portugees, want jy sulke om iemand te kry wat engels verstaan/ magtig is. dws van Mutari gaan jy deur die mosambiek grenspos en omtrent so 75km draai jy links op na Tete (ook intressant is die brug soos die in San Fran) en dan druk julle deur tot malawi grenspos. Van daar tot l'lilongwe en dan na die meer of andersins blantyre en die meer. van daar ry jy al langs die meer tot en met tanzanie grenspos. Wel ek hoop dat julle teen die tyd agtergekom het dat wat 'n mens beplan nie werklik realiseer nie. indien jy dink dat 300km jou 3 ure sal neem dan tref jy net 'n pad wat feitlik onrybaar is en eindig 9-ure later daar. (zim se paaie is relatief rybaar)

    Verder ook moet julle die Vumba vallei in die ooste van Zim ook besoek. 'n Interesannte plek is 'n coffee shop wat 'n sjokolade koek wat net uit sjokalade voorberei word (bittersoet). Verder vind jy die Leopard's Rock hotel, hoop Carl-Hein het sy golfstokke saamgevat. 'n Ongelooflike golfbaan. Prinses Di het ook daar oornag.

    'n Plek wat aanvaarbaar is om te oornag in Malawi teen die meer is Nkwazi (Bar restaurant, chalets and campsite). Die is so halfpad op teen die meer. Noord van die plek is Nquito Bay (moet gaan kyk of my spelling reg is.

    Hey guys
    Just sitting here with the fireplace going in the backround, i thought we had seen the worst of winter but looks like we are in for a bit of a cold spell. I thought i would catch up on what's happening..... i guess the comms are not that good up there. Hopefully we will be hearing from you guys soon
